This is us behind the Barns Florals!

My name is Mara and this is my dog Barney. 

I've been doing floristry as long as I can remember. I grow up in Latvia and it was something that me and my mum used to do together. We used to decorate our home for all occasions, especially we loved Christmas! 

Later, I moved to England to work and study in Operations (Yes, in a completely different field.!), however my love for flowers remained. In my free time, I've done flowers for my friend's events and Weddings. Eventually, I decided to gain florist qualification to establish my skills, knowledge, and talent. I studied at BMET Botanical Study Centre that was based in Birmingham Botanical Gardens- what a perfect location for this! 

After my studies, I worked to build my portfolio whenever I had a chance. Since then, I have been through a lot of ups and downs- from stop and start again... From different Business name (some customers still call me Melissa Bloom... but that is another story) to practising different styles of floristry. 

Barns Florals come to live in 2020 when I had the time to rebrand and change things around. Name was inspired by my Frenchie- Barney which also came into my life during pandemic year. He has a great personality and makes my day much more fun! He likes to snore away whilst I do my flowers until it’s time to get up and go for a walk.
